reclaimed stone garden path / stuyvesant heights, brooklyn

Our client had purchased her grandfather’s home the year prior to us meeting. It is a stunning Victorian row house in Stuyvesant Heights which had been the center of her family for generations. The backyard was not a space we were looking to modernize but to compliment the home’s century-old essence and to slow down time. ‘I have fond memories of playing under the yew in the backyard. It is one of the things in this house that most reminds me of my grandfather’ ‘I want this to be my daily escape. I want to feel the ground on my bare feet every day.’ 100 year old reclaimed granite planks were set between Pennsylvania fieldstone to form a curvy walkway where plants grow into the hardscaping, softening the lines between garden and functional space. Lush green plantings nestle the seating area under the large yew. Circular shapes and soft minimal lighting contrast with the dense, jagged shapes in the garden.. This is an on-going project still in development.
