Native-focused urban garden / Prospect heights, brooklyn
We reclaimed an overgrown thicket of long forgotten shrubs, waist-high feral lawn, Mulberry shoots and an armada of Japanese Knotweed and reshaped it into a native species focused landscape that supports native wildlife year round.
With 45 varieties of northeast native shrubs, perennials and trees the focus of the project was squarely on the planting design and promoting as much biodiversity as possible. Hornbeams were a necessary break in the native species dedication to provide quick, tall site line cover with a narrow profile. Our client is a food writer so the patio was designed as a container kitchen garden with fruit trees and shrubs lining the perimeter of the long harvest table which will be the setting for many summer meals. This project was completed in late fall of 2025 and will be photographed this summer.
